About Me

My interest in genealogy began around 2010. There was no single moment of epiphany — I simply developed the bug and, voilà , I was hooked. The early irony was that within three months I knew far more about my wife’s side of the family, the Powells, than my own. The Robineau side had been much less travelled, so I knew I was in the right place.
My branch of the Robineaus comes from the Sturgeon Falls area. They arrived there from Ripon, Québec, around 1900, and before that they were in Valleyfield, Montréal, and — around 1700 — Paris, France. Other common surnames in the family include Sauve, Cartie, Lavimodiere, Bourcier, and Brodeur.
My wife was a Powell, from the Wingham, Ontario area. She has since passed away. Her Powells are as much a part of this blog as my own Robineaus, and tracing them keeps her close. The Powells came from Porlock, England, around 1860, and other common surnames on that side include White, Jenkins, and Kerr.
